For the first time at the 2021 44Cup Scarlino World Championship the fleet was joined by a guest team as part of the Black Boat Project.

Taking the helm was talented J70 helm Valeriya Kovalenko with her ARTTUBE crew. The experienced team have built up a wealth of RC44 knowledge over the years racing as part of RUS7. For Kovalenko, Scarlino was her first time racing on an RC44. Still, having won the Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series two years running, taken the win, bronze and silver at the J70 Russian Championships and placed 10th at the J70 Worlds she has plenty of skill to take on this experienced fleet.

Kovalenko and ARTTUBE joined the 44Cup fleet as a full team for the final event of 2021 in Lanzarote, finishing a respectable fifth in a nine boat fleet.

Following the recent statement published by World Sailing, the RC44 Class Association would like to confirm that we will be following the World Sailing guidance and regulations. Until further notice Russian and Belarusian sailors, shore crew and official will not compete in the 44Cup. Although this is hard for the teams, our friends and everyone involved it is sadly unavoidable given the situation.
